Introduction to DTA Position Paper on Dental Meetings
November 15, 2007
The Dental Trade Alliance has developed a Position Paper on Dental Meetings. This position paper came about as a result of a
great deal of study of US dental meetings. Beginning with a 2005 survey of US dentists’ opinions about trade shows and followed
by creation of a special DTA Task Force on Trade Shows, DTA has focused its efforts on finding ways to improve the trade
show experience for dentists and for the trade. The Position Paper on Dental Meetings contains guidelines for what the trade
considers a successful exhibition and dental meeting. It outlines components and gives benchmarks that we believe should
be the goal for every meeting.
We believe this is just the beginning. We have discussed the components of this position paper with many organizers of dental meetings.
It is our desire to work with representatives of the dental meetings in a formal way to further develop these guidelines and craft a
rating system that will help DTA members and meeting organizers assess our collective progress in improving the trade show experience.
The dental trade is glad to support dental society activities by exhibiting and sponsoring events at meetings.
We hope this position paper and subsequent discussions with you will lead to improved meetings and improved return on the
tremendous investment our members make in the dental meetings.
We ask you to read this position paper and provide us with your comments and ideas.
We also ask you to commit to working with us to refine the benchmarks and develop better ways to make a successful dental show and meeting.
