2018 Mini-Dental School® East
2018 Mini-Dental School® East Attendees Expand their Dental Horizons
Twenty-two Dental Trade Alliance members attended the July 30-31 Mini-Dental School® East at the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry in Baltimore. During one of DTA’s most popular professional development programs, attendees gained unique insights into dentistry.
Several hands-on sessions allowed participants to learn first hand techniques for caries removal and filling, digital radiology, intraoral scanning and CAD CAM, dental hygiene procedures and performing an endodontic root canal procedure. A lunch and learn session with current students allowed for a closer look at their dental school experience and insight into their future professional plans.
"Being new to the dental industry, this class fueled my excitement for the dental industry and provided relevant background and context for my work. I also developed a level of empathy for dental hygienists and dentists that will enable me to make more informed decisions about how to best deliver on their needs."
Key takeaways from the session were:
- An inside view of the skills and training that dentists and hygienists need to have to excel at their profession.
- A better understanding of the dental education system and how dental students are trained including what products and techniques are used.
- An improved grasp of the language of dentistry and of the varied specialties within the dental profession that use their products and services.
Based on the continued demand for the DTA Mini-Dental School® program, dates for the 2019 sessions are in the works. Mini-Dental West® will be held April 8-9 at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine and Mini-Dental East® will be held over the summer at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Registration for 2019 DTA programs will open in Fall 2018.
