Collaboration Across Borders: Increasing Access to Health Caring for Underserved Individuals

Project Type:
Interprofessional Oral Health Care
Grant Type:
DTA Foundation
Year:
2016

“Poor oral health is a strong predictor of many adverse health outcomes,” according to Meharry. “The purpose of this project is to implement collaboration between health care professionals to insure that oral health is a part of a comprehensive health care plan for underserved individuals. The project will train non-dental healthcare professionals: physicians (family medicine, internal medicine, OB/GYN, pediatricians), nurse practitioners, social workers, and nutritionists at our partner hospital, Metropolitan General Hospital (a city funded hospital), neighboring community health centers and private practices in the detection and prevention of oral disease.”
