It is well known that tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children and the number one reason children miss school. This discussion led to the implementation of a sealant program in eight Title 1 schools in the Tampa area. The positive results of the program and need for dental screening and treatment were overwhelming. In Pinellas County, a school based sealant program was piloted this year, reaching 18 Title 1 schools. During the educational component of the sealant program, a sealant video is shown to students, teachers, and if possible, parents attending PTA meetings. The video is from the 1980s and is outdated and does not include dental hygiene.  This video is used by many sealant programs across the United States.

MORE HEALTH, Inc., will use its grant to produce a four- to 10-minute educational video that can be shown to elementary school students, teachers, parents/caregivers and other community members that will provide understandable information explaining oral hygiene, dental sealants/fluoride varnish, the sealant application process, and the importance of eating healthy nutrition.  The video will be produced in English and Spanish. Accompanying written materials' templates (also in English and Spanish) will be developed for distribution.

The availability of a new dental health and sealant video and free downloadable written materials on the MORE HEALTH, Inc. website will assist local communities and other communities throughout the United States by providing dental health literacy in a cute, fun, and understandable way while also encouraging families to find a dental home.
