Approximately 16,000 dentists and dental team members are expected to travel to Madrid, Spain next year for the 2017 FDI World Dental Congress and, as a DTA member, your company can be a part of the U.S. pavilion so you can better reach these current and potential customers.

The FDI World Congress is a multi-disciplinary event featuring the most outstanding national and international experts from the main dental fields from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, 2017. It includes custom practical workshops, is certified by the ADA and offers continuing education credits and will also feature a complete commercial exhibition with the presence of the sector industry which will showcase the latest technological developments at the Congress.

“In my opinion, it is the most important dental event in the decade and we’re convinced it will be complete success,” said the Chairman of the General Dental Council in Spain, Óscar Castro Reino. “We will have approximately 350 brands and state-of-the-art companies from around the world in the 7,000 square meters of exhibit space.”

Annual sales of dental equipment in Spain are well in excess of 65 million Euro, while growth in the dental market is estimated at 2 percent per year. Also, according to 2016 statistics by Eurostat, of the approximately 330,000 practicing dentists in Europe, nearly one-tenth are in Spain (32,429), making it the continent’s fourth largest dental market.

Even heavy typhoon rains could not dampen the enthusiasm and attendance for the 20th anniversary of the DenTech China Meeting in Shanghai, China. More than 60,000 dental professionals from throughout southeastern Asia filled two major exhibit halls in the Shanghai World Expo Convention Center to see and learn about the latest dental innovations.

Approximately 35 U.S. and Canadian companies exhibited in the DTA U.S. pavilion or on their own during the four-day exhibition, taking advantage of the opportunity to meet privately with authorized distributors and buyers from the local Shanghai University Dental Clinics and teaching hospitals. The Dentech China Meeting is making it easier for U.S. companies to participate by helping U.S. manufacturers wishing to get their devices approved for sale in China as well as providing discounts on local hotels and offering transportation to and from the exhibition. DTA is planning to offer a webinar in early 2017 to show U.S. companies how to best register their devices to sell them in China to support future Dentech China endeavors.

The Dentech China Meeting is sponsored by UBM Showstar, several local Shanghai Universities and by the Shanghai Stomatological Association in accordance with Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China.

FDI 2016 Poznan 208

The September FDI 2016 Congress and Exhibition in Poznan, Poland attracted more than18,000 dental professionals, exhibitors, educational presenters and government healthcare agencies from across the globe. Attendees participated in a broad range of discussions and presentations focusing on current dental topics, including dental amalgam, dentistry within aging populations, better overall access to dental care, implementing dental standards and scores of other topical oral care subjects. At this year’s FDI Meeting, the DTA hosted a U.S. Pavilion for 25 DTA and North American companies that included a wide array of equipment, consumable, implant and instrument companies looking for new distributor partners and authorized buyers in Eastern Europe.

FDI 2015

The 2015 FDI Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand was a great success for FDI and the international dental trade.

Approximately 8,000 dentists registered for the FDI Congress and more than 12,000 total attendees. The U.S. pavilion had 22 companies exhibiting and manufacturers were generally pleased with daily foot traffic, the number of interested buyers and local distributors visiting the U.S. pavilion and the entire exhibit hall. There were another eight U.S. companies that exhibited outside the U.S. pavilion because of booth size or they required a corner booth location.

The overall facilities at the exhibition center were better than other recent FDI locations with comfortable meeting spaces, large food court, proper signage, easy access to taxis and shuttle buses to the sky–tram public transportation. Hotels in Bangkok, were not nearby the exhibition but were plentiful, affordable and easily accessible from the sky–tram running above the city.

There were a variety of interesting continuing educational events for dentists, dental staff and exhibitors held inside the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center throughout the entire congress. Many of these events were conducted in English.

IDM President Christian Brutzer was quick to remind the FDI organizers that FDI must be vigilant in continuing to arrange and promote FDI Meetings in attractive city and country locations – easily accessible for all international attendees. Poznan Poland in September 2016 should attract larger numbers of U.S. manufacturers and distributors because it is a non–IDS year. The DTA will host another U.S./DTA Pavilion in Poland in 2016. Companies looking for more information about the 2016 FDI Meeting and Exhibition should contact Emmanuel Chevron at Echevron@fdiworldental.org.

IDS 2015

The 2015 IDS Meeting in Cologne Germany was another success, with increased attendance of more than 135,000 people passing through the turnstiles at the five day exhibition. More than two hundred countries sent exhibitors, dentists, and government buyers to the world’s largest dental meeting this year.

The US/DTA Pavilion in Hall 4.2 hosted more than 150 North American companies, many exhibiting for the first time in Cologne. There were 18 additional companies exhibiting in a new US Pavilion in Hall 2.2 for the very first time.  DTA held two extra events including a presentation inviting attendees to visit the Sino Dental Meeting in Beijing in June 2015 and a World Dental Federation (FDI) presentation about the September 22-25, 2015 FDI Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. As always, many new technologies as well as a record number of implant manufacturers captured the attention and imagination of the all attendees.

US companies were extremely pleased with the foot traffic and interest in US dental products and equipment. Many exhibitors have already requested exhibit space for the March 21-25, 2017 IDS meeting. Demand for US technologies continues at an extremely high rate.  DTA will continue to support North American companies by hosting the DTA exhibitor lounge in Hall 4.2, selling discounted hotel rooms in Cologne, and creating extra networking opportunities in the exhibitor lounge at the conclusion of each day’s exhibition.
