DTA Launches First Mini-Dental School East
On August 10th, 20 participants from 12 DTA member organizations converged in Baltimore to attend the “first” DTA Mini-Dental School East session held at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Created in response to popular demand for the program, the Mini-Dental School East was modeled after the “original” Mini-Dental program at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine that DTA Members have been attending since 2003. The two day sessions provide insights into the knowledge and skills that dental professionals receive in dental school with an emphasis on hands-on learning experiences.
During two intensive days of programming, the Mini-Dental School East participants learned dental terminology; gained insights about various dental specialties; learned about the current trends in the types of dental practices found in the marketplace; experienced hands-on sessions including decay removal, applying composite fillings, root canal procedures; and conducting intraoral digital scans. Attendees also had the opportunity to network with their classmates and hear from graduating students about their future career plans, during the two-day session.
Feedback from the attendees for this inaugural session at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry was very positive. “This was an extremely organized and well-designed program. Thank you!” noted Linda Miller from PDT, Inc. “I loved the course. I’d take it again if given the opportunity.” added Jeff Ginsberg of Dental Shopper.
“Our original goal for offering an East Coast location was to provide a convenient destination for dental industry professionals located in the Eastern United States. Interestingly, the attendees came from locations across the country indicating the overall demand for this popular program” noted Jon Landers, DTA Vice President for Industry Development. “Based on the positive feedback and how quickly both Mini-Dental School sessions sold out, we are looking to offer sessions at both locations 2016."
