Key Takeaways from the 2017 DTA Leadership Institute

Event Date:
May 22, 2017 to May 24, 2017

Recently, a good cross section of DTA members attended DTA’s Leadership Institute's inaugural course May 22-24. Taught by James Walling Ph.D.  and N. Karl Haden Ph.D., the sessions focused on developing and enhancing DTA member employees’ critical leadership and management skills necessary to navigate the dental industry’s rapidly changing environment. The key takeaways from the event included a deeper understanding of Myers Briggs Type Indicators and working inside and outside of your preferences, building high-performance teams, effective leadership styles, innovation and peer/employee coaching, as well as strategic planning.

The curriculum provided participants with practical learning experiences in areas critical to leading a successful business in the dental industry. While the Institute was tailored for the dental industry, there were important lessons learned from other business sectors related to strategy, innovation, execution, and sales and marketing. The Institute made ample use of case studies, role playing, and planning activities to ensure immediate applicability. Graduates will soon have access to online, on-demand learning modules to enhance their professional development throughout the year.

Designed for high-potential emerging leaders, the purpose of the DTA Leadership Institute is to empower individuals as both leaders within their companies and within the dental industry.
